NOTARY-CERTIFIED TRANSLATION
A notary-certified translation is a translation that has been verified by a sworn translator’s signature, which in turn has been verified by a notary public. The need for these kinds of translations is set out in various laws and regulations. In practice, a sworn notary verifies the translator’s education and qualification to perform the translation, as well as warns regarding the translator’s liability for deliberately false and/or incorrect translation in accordance with Sections 300 and 302 of the Criminal Law of the Republic of Latvia.
TYPES OF CERTIFICATION FOR A TRANSLATION
Certification to the original document: a translation certified by a qualified translator and signed by a notary is sewn to the original document. Certification to the copy: a photocopy of the original document is taken, to which a translation certified by a qualified translator in the relevant language is sewn; a photocopy with a translation shall be certified by a notary only when the original document is presented.
